Tommy laughs softly. Mary speaks like he's got any particular attachment or ownership to any one of them. In truth, the gray pony just reminds him most of home, that cobby body and bit of an attitude like any vaner he's ever known.

The horses linger happily at the fence as Tommy steps away and starts to set up their picnic for them. Tommy doesn't disturb Mary from standing at the fence, and the horses certainly seem happy to have her attention as well. It gives him a moment to set out their little lunch.
